Study Area Description | Katari is a Municipality in Udayapur District in the Koshi province of south-eastern Nepal. It lies by the Tawa river which if formed by unification of original Tawa river and Baidhyanath river. It is a dun valley whose forest area coverage is almost 65% and falls under subtropical climatic region. |
Design Description | Roads and foot trails passing through mosaic habitats formed by grasslands, forests, farmlands, wetlands and human settlements were used for observing birds first sighted with naked eyes and then confirmation was done with detail observation of the individuals through aided optical instruments like binoculars, spot telescope and cameras. |
The personnel involved in the project:
Sampling Methods
Opportunistic sampling technique was deployed.
Study Extent | The data are confined to the ward no. 3, 4 and 5 of Katari Municipality. |
---|---|
Quality Control | Consultation with ornithologists of Nepal for confirmed identification of species. |
Method step description:
- First, foot trails and roads passing through the mosaic habitats were established. Bird watching was conducted following the predetermined transects ( foot trails and roads) Individuals sighted with naked eyes were noticed. Confirmed identification was made through detailed observation with binocular (8*40, Eagle Optics) and in all possible cases photographic evidences were collected which were later shared with experts for species confirmation.
