This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto
The Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC) received a federal grant to collaborate with high schools as part of the Hawaii National Invasive Species Program. The goal of the project is to increase local knowledge about invasive species, increase data collection, and generate annotated species lists for reported areas.

Métodos de Amostragem
Two schools from each island were selected because they were located in areas where knowledge and documentation regarding invasive species assessment were poor or nonexistent. The teachers worked with the local Invasive Species Council (ISC) outreach officer to create educational materials detailing 21 invasive plant species, including how to identify each species' life stages and the most effective control methods. The University of Hawaii on Maui (UHM) Graduate School is hosting an outreach course for the general public. As part of their final evaluation, four UHM students are validating the photo-based identifications and descriptions submitted by each high school to their local SIC.
Área de Estudo | Big Island, Hawaï. |

Descrição dos passos do método:
- Along each route, school students, guided by local ISC technicians and student mentors, were tasked with identifying target species and taking 1 to 3 photos using GPS-enabled cell phones. Information describing observations of each of the 21 targeted invasive species was recorded using a digital data collection form during each collection. Four UHM graduate students performed taxonomic validation using the submitted images and descriptions. The BIISC GIS analyst used Google Maps coordinates and EXIF image data to verify the quality of the observations and add missing geographic coordinates.
