This checklist compiles species designated as invasive or potentially invasive in the Hawaiian Islands, documented through a community and school-engaged data collection project. It includes taxa from multiple kingdoms, reflecting the broad impact of invasive species in the region. This dataset was developed under the guidance of the Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC) and includes field data collected by students, researchers, and herbarium staff.

Introduction This dataset stems from a federally funded initiative led by the Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC), designed to incorporate invasive species education into Hawaii’s statewide high school curriculum. The project sought to increase local knowledge about invasive species, enhance data collection efforts, and generate annotated checklists for regions with limited prior documentation.
目的 The purpose of this dataset is to enhance local knowledge, monitoring, and management of invasive plant species across under-documented regions of the Hawaiian Islands. By engaging high school students and community members through targeted education and citizen science programs, the project aimed to increase data collection capacity.
維護說明 This is a pilot version of the checklist developed for publication. Future updates may be planned as more invasive species are documented or verified, or as taxonomy is updated through field surveys and expert input.
